2009 Youth Essay Contest

The CRC Youth Outreach Committee is proud to announce the winners and finalists of the 2009 Youth Essay Contest.

We would like to thank all entrants and reviewers for their hard work and participation in this contest.   As we had a wonderful response and received many thoughtful, well written entries, it was very difficult choosing the top essays in each of the categories listed below:

Education Category:
1st Place: Khadija Lalani, 11th Grade, Weston, CT
Finalist: Elizabeth Kuhn, 9th Grade, St. Charles, IL

Health Category:
1st Place: Caitlin Quinn, 8th Grade, San Antonio, TX
Finalist: Kai Yu Tan, 10th Grade, North Potomac, MD

Participation Category:
1st Place: Catrin Dowd, 11th Grade, Ann Arbor, MI
Finalist: Aubrey Rinehart, 8th Grade, Baldwin City, KS

Special Protection Measures Category:
1st Place: Abbey Flynn, 11th Grade, Glen Ellyn, IL
Finalist: Noah Slocum, 9th Grade, Rockford, IL

Supportive Environments for Children Category:
1st Place: Carleigh Houghtling, 11th Grade, Talala, OK
Finalist: Kristina Pietka, 12th Grade, Lemont, IL

The top five winning essayists presented their submissions to participants who attended the Campaign's National Symposium which was convened at the Georgetown University Law School in Washington, DC on June 1-2, 2009.  Their essays, along with those of the five finalists, have been incorporated into the following document: 2009 Essay Booklet.
